The book I am currently reading (my fourth book read on my Sony Reader) is Stephenie Meyer's Twilight. I was hesitant about reading it as I'm not a great vampire fan (oops-- spoiler: It's about vampires). But as a junior high teacher I felt sort of obligated to do so.
As it turns out, I'm enjoying it. It is competently written and the protagonist, while almost as whiney as real teen-aged girls, at least has a reasonably intelligent vocabulary. Ms. Meyer's new take on the vampire myth is interesting, but honestly, the thing I enjoy most is the description of the setting (the northwest) and the sharp contrasts made between it and the Mojave desert.
